Ashland Resort

Ashland Resort  aka Ashland Scenic Campground is located in Northfolk, West Virginia. Its located right on the HMT Indian Ridge Trail system! Ashland has been the at the top of ATV Resorts for years and for good reason. We've stayed at Ashland numerous times and have had only great experiences at this resort.

When you pull off Hwy 52 in Northfork the road into Ashland gets a little sketchy. We usual pull a 20 foot trailer with our "toys" and the road gets really narrow when another vehicle is coming the other way. We don't recommend bringing in larger trailers or RVs after dark as the side of the road has some good size ditches from other trailers getting off the ashphalt.

Once you get to the resort, you're always welcomed by friendly staff who are very helpful and courteous (even if you arrive just before closing as we did last time). We started staying at an Ashland camp site years ago and have recently started staying in the cabins. Both of which are well-maintained and kept clean. The one down side to the cabins is that Ashland has outlined each site with split rail fencing. We assume this is to keep the grass and fire pit areas safe from errant drivers. This causes a problem when you're trying to back a truck and trailer into the cabin's (indivdual) driveway. The last tme we stayed there we didn't have a prayer of getting our rig into the cabin's driveway. Fortunately, Ashland has overflow parking areas where you can park longer trailers that won't fit into the driveway.

The cabins are great! They are kept cleaned and well-maintained. A lot of the cabins have bunk beds in the living area which is great for housing 4 or more people. There's not much room for indoor activities in the cabin (but staying indoors is not why we came to the resort). Ashland does not provide linens, so don't forget to bring them from home. If you're staying at a camp site or a cabin without a bathroom the community bath/shower facilities are equally well maintained and kept clean.

One of the biggest pluses to Ashland is that it is located right on HMT Indian Ridge Trail system. Indian Ridge connects to 3 other Hatfield-McCoy Trail Systems (Pocahontas, Pinnacle Creek and Warrior). Once you unload you can ride for days or even a week without loading back up! A couple of minor negatives is that Ashland does not have a good wash station for your rides and although they have a quiet time for late at night it's not well enforced. A couple of times we were awakened by late trail riders close to midnight. In conclusion, Ashland is a great resort to stay at any time of the year!
